The highest place that gets no money in a tournament is called the bubble. If the first ten places in a tournament get a prize, then the 11th place is the bubble. The player who gets this place is called the bubble boy.
The other meaning of bubble is the phase of tournament play just before the bubble is reached, where only a few players must be eliminated before reaching the monied places.
